Today started with an early morning trip to the proton institute, where we joined a number of other families for Monday morning coffee and doughnuts! We all caught up on what each other did over the weekend and had the opportunity to meet new patients who were starting treatment.
Josh's treatment took a lot longer today due to him wriggling! (We'll try and post more photos of him having treatment tomorrow.) We used the time to chat to our friends from Reading and shared experiences of cancer services at different NHS hospitals, we noticed some real inequalities depending on where patients lived but everyone agreed that the treatment here was on a whole different level to anything we have ever received at home. We also got to chat to Amy (head of nursing) and had a bit of a debate, it was interesting to hear her views, perhaps the grass is always greener on the other side!
Once Josh's treatment was over we had a meeting with Kim (Josh's child life specialist), she is pleased with Josh's progress but concerned that he is becoming stressed and tired with treatment. She is thinking of new games and things to occupy Josh whilst he undergoes his treatment everyday!
We then drove over to Nemours children's hospital where we spoke with Jess (Josh's oncology nurse) she and his oncologist are happy with his progress and are pleased that his new anti sickness medication seems to be working!
