Josh's treatment took about 30 minutes today, mainly because he had to keep posing for photographs and kept chatting to the therapists!
When he had finished we went and met with Dr Danny for the final time! We discussed the follow up care in England, Josh should have a scan in about 8 weeks time to check on the tumor and he will then need a scan every three months to monitor it. We talked about the side effects and how Josh is feeling, including the redness on his back. The side effects could continue for a number of months, and the redness on his back could remain for much longer. We now just have to play the waiting game to see if the proton treatment has shrunk the tumor, (there's a chance that it may have caused swelling, secondary tumors or made it worse). Dr Danny will continue to monitor Josh via email every few months and will hopefully see us all next summer when we return to Jacksonville for a follow up appointment.
After we finished chatting with Dr Danny we moved onto Josh's graduation party in the play room! He had a Scooby Doo cake which he shared with everyone there (but didn't eat any himself!).
The proton centre gave Josh a toys r u voucher and an alligator from build a bear.
To congratulate Josh on finishing we bought him a microphone that you can record songs on and sing along to your favourite songs. Josh decided to sing a song for everyone which was enjoyed by everyone else who was waiting for treatment!
We will be heading back to proton tomorrow to listen to a talk from a chordoma specialist, say goodbye to everyone and of course give our graduation speech at the Wednesday lunch bunch!
I have posted some photos of the day below:
