The day for us started with a lie in and then a trip to starbucks. We were delighted to be offered free coffee upon arrival to celebrate the 4th July!
We spent the afternoon enjoying our first American baseball game, it was the East side of Springfield v the West side. (Springfield is the area of Jacksonville we are living in.) We joined everyone in standing to sing the National anthem before the game - I think we may have now sung the American anthem more than we've ever sung the British anthem!
I would tell you all who won the baseball game but in truth I don't know as I wasn't great at following the game!
We joined tens of thousands of other people in the evening on the banks of the St John's river to watch a fantastic firework display that lasted for just over ten minutes.
The only disappointment that we had of our first fourth of July was that we didn't eat hotdogs, (we had always seen on the movies at home that they eat hotdogs and we are yet to have one!). So perhaps we'll have to come back next year and try again?!
