Weekend of chemo

We are still awaiting a decision from Josh's doctors on his treatment, we will post news as soon as we have it!

Last week Lonnie completed his head shave to raise money for the cancer appeal at Birmingham Children's Hospital. You can still donate via his justgiving page: www.justgiving.com/Lonnie-Brown

Lonnie then was admitted to the QE hospital to begin his first cycle of chemotherapy at the end of last week. This first cycle consists of a 4 day inpatient stay with continuous IV chemo, followed by weekly injections of chemo for several weeks.
He has completed the first four days, and found it a lot harder than he was expecting, experiencing side effects that even the medical staff hadn't encountered before!
He is slowly recovering at home, although still feeling really unwell, before his next chemo injection at the end of this week.

We can only sing the praises of the staff at the QE who have been wonderful and provide really excellent care to both the patients and their families.

It was a privilege as always to meet some of the other patients who were in, many of whom were teenagers and young adults. The majority of these were facing many months of gruelling treatment but were only too happy to offer us encouragement.

This weekend has been a reminder to us of how harsh chemotherapy treatment can be compared to the proton therapy we experienced in America. We are really hopeful with the progress being made to bring proton therapy to the UK that many more will have the option to undergo this before having more drastic treatments.
